I’ve been there .

I was born to refugee immigrant parents from Vietnam. English was my third language (my first was Ticheow, a rare Chinese dialect, and then Vietnamese).

I was shy. I was nerdy. I struggled immensely in school to make friends.

I didn’t have the gift of the gab. I was gab-less. (And girlfriend-less thanks to my pimples, braces and Level 0 Charisma.)

In my early career, I was passed over for promotions and job opportunities left and right.

I really wanted to work in electronic stores when I was younger, but I NEVER got through the interview process.

I ended up stacking shelves in a grocery store, and deep-frying food in a takeaway store.

I used to feel that it was the responsibility of others to see how great I am. I was waiting for someone to come along and notice me, and I spent a lot of time waiting.
